I have decided to give a description for each Shinsengumi member I've come across. It came out of a desire to not let these members to go down as nameless persons in fandom. Those who have studied the Shinsengumi would surely know the charter members, the commanders, vice-commander and Captains of this police group as they have been a topic of various films, drama, novels, manga, anime etc. They are included here as well, along with those whom most of you haven't heard before. As some of us know these men did not formally start out as the Shinsengumi nor did they end in that name. Most accept that the Shinsengumi started with a group of men breaking up from the Roshigumi that was ill-formed by Kiyokawa Hachiro. They will not be given the name "Shinsengumi" (Newly Selected Group) and will be known instead as "Miburoshi" (their headquarters was in Mibu village in the Yagi and Maekawa residence) until they have proven themselves worthy enough to be acknowledged by the Kyoto Protector, Matsudaira Katamori, Daimyo of Aizu and be officially sanctioned as a police force for the Bakufu. They will not retain the name however, using instead the Koyou Chibuntai (Pacification Corps) during their decline and inevitable end, at least in history.
